Cláudia Marques Santos is a professor of journalistic writing, hermeneutics and semiotics at Universidade Lusófona, where she is also a PhD student in Communication Sciences, as well as of cultural journalism at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She's a freelance journalist based in Lisbon, with work published in Observador, Público, Expresso, Diário de Notícias newspapers and in Visão, LER magazines. She is Portugal's Innocence Project president, which journalistically investigates cases that may have resulted in wrongful convictions in court, and she was part of the first Portuguese consortium of journalists, who investigated online hate speech by Portuguese police enforcement. A Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Fondación Gabo de Periodismo and Pulitzer Center grantee, Cláudia Marques Santos is a 2024 European Press Prize laureate, in the Investigation category.
