Nuno Fachada is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University and an Integrated Researcher at INESC INOV-Lab. He is currently teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Programming at the Videogames BA, and Machine Learning Fundamentals at the AI for Games MSc Program. Nuno's main research interests lie in AI, Machine Learning, Games, Research Software, Computer Science Education, High-Performance Computing, and Modeling and Simulation, topics on which he has published more than 25 articles in Q1/Q2 journals (Scopus) and contributed to numerous conference proceedings and software outputs, reflecting a strong commitment to open and reproducible research practices. He completed his degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2005, and went on to pursue a master degree in the same institute on the topic of immune system simulation. During this period (2006-2008), Nuno was a teaching assistant at IST, lecturing subjects such as Programming, Digital Systems and Computer Architectures. He successfully defended his PhD thesis in 2016 (IST), entitled "Agent-Based Modeling on High Performance Computing Architectures", for which he was awarded the maximum grade Pass with Distinction and Honour. After a year as a postdoc at IST's Institute for Systems and Robotics, Nuno moved to Lusófona University, where he holds his current academic position and contributes to both teaching and research in AI and programming, having played a key role in the design and delivery of curricula in AI and machine learning, including the development of courses and academic programs focused on applied AI. More recently, he has further consolidated his research activity as an Integrated Researcher at INESC INOV-Lab and as the Principal Investigator of the FireGuard project (2024-2026), strengthening his work on applied AI for societal and environmental challenges. His recent work also explores the capabilities of large language models in complex tasks, including reasoning, simulation, and automated decision-making.

Nuno graduated in Genetics and Microbial Biology (2006) and has a MSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics (2008) from the University of Lisbon. He finished his PhD in Cell Biology and Virology from Imperial College, London in 2012 and then worked as a PostDoc at the University of Cambridge. He is currently a researcher at CBIOS and an Assistant Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at Lusófona University and at the Lisbon University Faculty of Sciences. His research as a Principal Investigator at CBIOS has been focused on the impact of Ca2+ and ROS on cellular processes associated with cancer progression, namely cell survival/death and motility. He has also been deeply involved in several projects aimed at accessing the safety and efficacy of novel bioactives, ingredients to be used in health products using human cell-based techniques.
