DECADOCS is a research and training programme which aims to renegociate common assumptions about decadence that equate it with decay and decline. A more nuanced view of decadence predicated on sustainability, transnationalism, and sensoriality, envisages it as a valuable tool to enrich our understanding of contemporary artistic, media, entertainment, and sociocultural practices.

The European Commission has designated 2022 as the “European Year of Youth” and encourages the development of young people in a more active, participatory and quality way. The development of entrepreneurial skills is an important goal for preparing youth for the future of work. GameYES aims at enhancing entrepreneurship skills for youth, through the development of a gamified curriculum that immerses them in realistic scenarios where they have to be active agents for developing their ideas. Entrepreneurship-related skills, such as critical thinking, decision-making, leadership, collaboration, learning from failure, creativity and innovation, negotiation, etc., are among the core skills that youth will be practicing and developing throughout the gamified curriculum. The gamified experience will guide youth from finding a good idea that relates to solving a problem, setting up the basics of their business, creating a team and growing. Ultimately, teams will participate in a pitching competition. Throughout the gamified experience, youth will have opportunities to speak with experts in the area and receive mentorship from experts in the field.

Starting in 2018, large EU companies must report in accordance with the Directive 2013/34/EU as regards disclosure of non-financial and diversity information. Companies need to disclose their business model, policies and results, risks and non-financial key performance indicators in the following categories: environmental issues; social and service aspects; respect for human rights; problems of fight against corruption and bribery; diversity on the board of directors. But this is just the beginning. This Directive is a very good starting point, which can be gradually introduced in HEIs. To strengthen HEIs' role in promoting sustainable development goals may be the introduction of sustainable communications. In a time where anthropogenic climate change threatens some of the conditions we depend on, and where inequality and armed conflicts remain global problems, the need for relevant communication on global sustainability becomes urgent. The pandemic years has been a game changer. It has brought to the fore the need to bring the human-to-human approach back into focus.We have seen communication genuinely rooted in emotion, capable of bringing us together in times of great difficulty. Despite the challenges that we face, the time has come for HEIs communication to brand its power to put people at its centre and inspire students, staff, comunity, other key stakeholders all towards a more sustainable future. It’s time for communication to become more sustainable. Given the complexity of communication in this project, we will focus on the direction of communication through social media, the role of which is currently growing rapidly and underestimated by universities and academia.
COMSUS aim is strengthening of higher education institutions' capabilities in promoting the co-creating of resilient, inclusive and sustainable society through sustainable communications with key stakeholders in social media. Project concentrates on the relationship between media and communication and the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. The European Climate Pact (2020), Pact for Skills (2022) are promoting and calling organisations, educational bodies and public authorities to help people to prepare for work in green conditions and be able to get a jobemployment in the green economy. In response to calls from the EU, the COMSUS project partnership decided to join the implementation of green initiatives through educational tools in higher education sector.
Also COMSUS is oriented on European Skills Agenda (2020). We will help HEIs staff develop more and better Sustainable communication in social media skills and to put them to use for:
- strengthening sustainable competitiveness, as set out in the European Green Deal - ensuring social fairness, putting into practice the first principle of the European Pillar of Social Rights - building resilience to react to crises, based on the lessons of COVID-19 pandemic.

MetCardio_DBC human observational study explores the impact of vegetarian-vegan versus omnivorous dietary patterns and physical activity habits in body composition, skin health and metabolic markers to establish the correlations between these parameters with metabolic health and cardiovascular risk. The following parameters are under investigation:
The eating behaviors and physical activity habits of participants using validated questionnaires; Body composition by Bioimpedance and Dual radiation X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA); Cutaneous physiology by means of carotenoids tests, Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL), superficial and deep Epidermal hydration, skin biomechanics characters and skin microcirculation; Biochemical parameters, blood pressure, and microcirculation parameters using the LINX DUG Multi-analyzer, validated semi-automatic oscillometer and Multispectral Optoacoustic Tomography (MSOT) imaging, respectively; Cardiovascular risk using QRISK®3-2018.

In contemporary societies, increasingly diversified with multiplied social, economic, and cultural variations, digital technology is more than ever fused together with and through daily life. There is a pressing need to reduce socio-digital inequalities in the context of a highly digitalized working life and welfare services. At the same time, there is a knowledge gap about how youth in disadvantaged situations, such as those in NEET situations (not in education, employment, or training), can take advantage of their own digital practices. Through four interconnected work packages, this study contributes to filling this gap. It investigates ways in which migrant NEET youth (15-29 years old) employ strategies and experience struggles to reach favorable outcomes from their digital practices in: a) the migrant NEET youths’ everyday life (WP1), b) a family context (WP2), and c) interaction with public welfare services (WP3).

GAMILearning (Games for Media and Information Literacy Learning) aims to strengthen the critical and participatory dimensions of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) among children aged 9–12 through game-based learning and game creation. Bringing together researchers from Portugal and the United States alongside an industry partner, the project combines media literacy, digital education and gamification to empower young learners to critically understand, create and reflect on digital media. By enabling students to design their own educational games, GAMILearning fosters critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and digital skills, while supporting teachers with innovative pedagogical methodologies and tools. The project also evaluates the impact of game design, collaborative learning and digital pedagogies on media literacy development, contributing evidence-based approaches for integrating gamification into formal education.

The project DIGIMI (DIGItal storytelling for Migrant Integration) has as key objective the involvement of the local community to facilitate social integration for migrants through volunteering activities to provide support to third-country nationals in areas such as knowledge of the new local environment, “ways, customs and habits” of the new society as well as understanding of the latter through digitally narrated stories. Storytelling regarding present and past recollections, interests and hopes is associated with coping mechanisms, and recently arrived third-country nationals can exchange, compare and combine their stories with those of long established migrants and local populations in the affected partner communities.

Digital storytelling for people with little digital literacy – new e-learning approaches

ArtDiCo aims to promote digital storytelling for people with low digital literacy, who based on their experiences during the Coronavirus pandemic, will learn how to move into the virtual/web, engage in the arts, and express themselves creatively with the support of educators. The project therefore takes up the experiences of the pandemic period by creating videos in the sense of digital storytelling that depict what was experienced. Works of art are to be selected that best reflect this time: e.g. a lonely landscape, the desire for conviviality or the fear of infection.
This setting is intended to reach people with low digital skills in particular.
ArtDiCo also aims to capture the current state of digital learning and apply it to the needs of digital storytelling. Cultural education and its practical application in adult education play a major role.

This project examines the impact of Instagram’s content moderation practices on photographic production, circulation, visibility, and authorship, with particular attention to artistic, erotic, and self-representational practices. Adopting a mixed-methods and exploratory research design, it integrates network analysis, surveys, semi-structured interviews, media diaries, and visual semiotic analysis to investigate creators’ experiences, strategies, and negotiations with platform governance. The study follows a participatory and reflexive approach, involving photographers, models, and self-photographers from diverse and intersectional backgrounds in the co-design of research instruments and advisory processes. Through systematic quantitative and qualitative analysis, the project seeks to identify structural patterns of engagement, censorship, and self-regulation, as well as to critically assess algorithmic and human moderation systems. Its findings aim to advance theoretical and empirical debates on digital visibility, artistic labour, and platform capitalism, and will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications, academic conferences, and curated public exhibitions.
