This project explores how plants from Portuguese-speaking regions could provide new treatments for wound healing and breast cancer. By investigating Lysil oxidase enzymes and their role in these conditions, the project aims to find natural compounds that can modulate LOX activity. These compounds will be tested on breast cancer cells and skin cells to understand their effects. Additionally, the project will use advanced techniques to enhance the effectiveness and safety of these natural compounds. This collaborative effort brings together experts from various fields to train young researchers and establish international partnerships for future progress.
To set out future-proof pathways to strengthen democracy through improving accountability, transparency and effectiveness of media production and expanding active and inclusive citizenship, the project aims to clarify the extent to which certain media under which conditions perform which democratic functions for which audiences, thus making it apparent what is at stake for democratic media - and for democracy itself.By applying an innovative multi-method design consisting of data science methods, large-scale quantitative analyses, in-depth qualitative approaches and participatory action research, the project will cover (1) perspectives of both representative and participatory notions of democracy as they exist in European societies, (2) the entire range of news media, regardless of distribution channel, mandate, ownership and source of financing, (3) the legal and (self-)regulatory framework under which media houses and journalism operate and people use media, (4) the media's potential to promote and support political participation (supply side), and (5) the media use patterns, communication needs and democratic attitudes of the audiences (demand side) in all EU Member States.
Media in Action is a project in educator training in media literacy and storytelling.
The project aims to work directly with educators such as youth and community group leaders, teachers, trainee teachers, teaching assistants, librarians and others involved with education for children aged 6-18. We will work at two levels: the educators and through them targeting young people in their communities.
We will provide training and support materials and workshops to enable educators to set up a media centre within their organisation aimed at increasing the critical thinking towards the media among citizens. Through this media centre we can create conditions for participants to better understand how media and news media work and also, through that, stimulating each group or class to be able to produce multi-media such as blogs, videos and podcasts in order to tell their stories. The centres will be linked by a media hub – one website where you can find and interact with content from groups all over Europe. Everything the participants learn along the way in terms of skills in journalism, media literacy, critical thinking, presentation, understanding texts, technical and digital skills will be recognised by awarding open badges. The materials will be differentiated to help remove some of the barriers to participation typically encountered. By utilising a range of multimedia tools we aim to make it easier for everyone involved to access the project.
It consisted of a multi-stakeholder approach and a good-practices rationale, meaning that it documented and evaluated all aspects of the initiative from inception to completion. The project was based on research evidence and theoretical conceptualizations of media literacy as a fundamental requirement of citizenship and empowerment. The project emphasized the key role of improving media literacy, especially among young people. A key rationale of this project was to enable participants to become agents of social change through their use and creation of media and broader social engagement, incorporating the inclusion of minorities, marginalized groups and online interest communities as part of the general public.
